Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has addressed the media ahead of this weekend’s encounter with Manchester City.
Following consecutive Premier League losses to Newcastle and Everton, Chelsea has slipped to sixth place in the league, sitting just one point behind fifth-placed Liverpool and seven points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa.
With mounting pressure on him, Rosenior is keen to secure his second Premier League win from his last seven games, as he focuses on climbing into the Champions League berths in the final seven fixtures of the season.
Fernandez ruled out for Man City match
He also confirmed that Enzo Fernandez will not feature in the match against City after he “crossed a line” with comments about his future, including hints at a potential move to Real Madrid.
“We had a really productive conversation. He’s apologised to me and the club. We will address this after a huge game on Sunday,” Rosenior stated.
“You can’t be excessively punitive for a mistake. I made a decision. My wish for Enzo is to have a fantastic career. He won’t be playing on Sunday.
“There are specific values and cultures I believe in, which will strengthen the club if we get them right.”
Rosenior optimistic about securing three points
Chelsea is still without injured players Filip Jorgensen, Levi Colwill, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Jamie Gittens, as Rosenior makes adjustments to his squad, who he believes can inflict serious harm on City.
“I’m not arrogant enough to not respect others. Pep (Guardiola) has had a profound influence on football. He’s an extraordinary coach with an impressive career, but I want my team to showcase their abilities on Sunday.
“He’s won trophies and rejuvenated the club. He has also had time to establish a playing style.
“We mustn’t lose focus or make errors because City will capitalise.”
Can Chelsea triumph over City? “Absolutely. We’re a quality team that has faced a challenging period. When I review our matches, we have troubled every team but haven’t yet seen the results we deserve.”
