Luis Enrique, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, lavished praise on winger Ousmane Dembele following the Frenchman’s outstanding performance, which saw him net two goals in Tuesday’s Champions League playoff first leg against Brest.
PSG achieved a resounding 3-0 victory, with Dembele persistently troubling the Brest defence throughout the encounter.
Speaking after the final whistle, Enrique commended the French attacker, who has been in prolific form, scoring 18 goals across his last 11 appearances.
“You’d need to ask him what he had for Christmas. He’s brimming with confidence,” Enrique commented to the media.
“When I used to play on the PlayStation as a child, he was the sort of player you’d select when you needed a game-changer.
“He was already impressive last season, but he is even better now in 2025. You can see how his teammates are actively seeking him out. His attitude is exceptional.”
With the return leg scheduled for February 19 looking favourable, Enrique acknowledged that PSG is in a solid position to progress into the tournament’s Round of 16.
“There’s a consistency that enhances the team’s performance. Brest certainly made us work hard, but we defended effectively. Our squad is constructed to attack, and we’re currently on a fantastic run,” he remarked.
Dembele, in turn, credited his teammates for his recent success.
“It wasn’t straightforward. Brest are a team we know well,” he noted to reporters following their victory over the Ligue 1 rivals.
“We maintained our focus from start to finish and achieved the outcome we wanted. However, it’s not over yet, so we must stay concentrated to complete the job at the Parc des Princes.”
“I believe the team is in a great rhythm. Everyone is focused and performing exceptionally well, which aids me in finding the right positions to convert opportunities into goals.”
