Everton manager David Moyes (61) has shared his thoughts during a recent press conference as his team gears up to face Bournemouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
When questioned about the club’s activity in the January transfer window, Moyes reflected on whether he was satisfied with the players he had signed.
“It could have certainly been improved, but everyone at Everton understands our current circumstances,” Moyes stated.
“We’re feeling more optimistic now. Going forward, there’s a better chance we can be more active in the transfer market. We would have preferred to do a little more, but factors like pricing and player availability influenced our decisions.”
The Toffees manager was also asked specifically about the club’s recent signing, Carlos Alcaraz, and expressed confidence in his ability to integrate into the team smoothly.
“He’s ready to go; he appears match fit, but the key is to get him acclimatised to the group without burdening him with too much pressure. He’s got Premier League experience, so he shouldn’t be overwhelmed by the pace of the game.”
Moyes highlighted that Everton’s recent run of three consecutive victories is crucial in uniting the fans as they prepare to bid farewell to Goodison Park.
“We’ve likely got only eight or nine games left at Goodison for good, so it’s essential that the fans savour every moment,” he mentioned.
“You can genuinely feel that the supporters and players are beginning to rekindle their connection.
“For a club like ours, known as ‘The People’s Club’, it’s vital that players and fans work hand in hand.”
Moyes then addressed the challenge of juggling league duties with cup aspirations, expressing a desire to secure silverware for the club.
“Let’s be honest, the top priority is to remain a Premier League club, but every Everton fan yearns for another visit to Wembley and the chance to win a trophy. We must deliver that opportunity for our supporters.”
“However, our league position must take precedence; we need to ensure we maintain our status in the Premier League.”
Discussing the team’s recent performance, Moyes noted the uplift in morale throughout the club.
“It feels brilliant to have won three matches; I can feel the positive energy in the training sessions, with players gaining confidence and a significant boost in self-belief. We need to keep this momentum going; we still have a way to go to become the team I envision for the future.”
Moyes also acknowledged Bournemouth, praising their solid performance this season.
“Bournemouth and their manager are doing a fantastic job. They’ve performed exceptionally well this season.”
“We must aim for a positive result against them. Our prior encounters didn’t end in our favour, so let’s see if we can turn the tide in the cup. It will be a challenging match.”
Lastly, he discussed Harrison Armstrong’s loan move to Derby County.
“This is just the beginning for him; we can hope that after getting 10 to 12 games under his belt, we’ll have a clearer picture of his development by summer.”
