Serge Gnabry, the Bayern Munich and German forward, faces the possibility of missing this summer’s World Cup after sustaining a thigh muscle tear, as announced by the Bundesliga club on Saturday.
Bayern issued a statement confirming that Gnabry is expected to be sidelined for “an extended period” due to a “torn adductor muscle in his right thigh”.
While the defending champions did not specify a recovery timeline, reports from German media suggest that Gnabry has played his final match of the club season and may be unavailable for the World Cup this summer.
The 30-year-old featured in both legs of Bayern’s clash against Real Madrid, helping them advance to the semi-finals, where they will meet PSG. However, the club has not disclosed the specifics of how or when the injury took place.
This season, the former Arsenal star has made 21 league appearances, contributing eight goals and seven assists.
Gnabry is a key player in Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s setup, having earned 59 caps for his country and scored 26 goals.
Additionally, Bayern is still in contention for the German Cup and can secure the Bundesliga title as early as Sunday, provided they do not lose at home to Stuttgart.
