Real Betis has made history by reaching the semi-finals of a UEFA competition for the first time ever, following a 1-1 draw against Jagiellonia Białystok at the Stadion Miejski, which secured a 3-1 aggregate victory in their UEFA Conference League quarter-final.
A commanding 2-0 win for Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarin in the first leg placed them in a solid position to advance to the final four. However, with Jagiellonia’s impressive home record — remaining unbeaten at home throughout this season’s Conference League — the tie was still up for grabs.
Manuel Pellegrini would have been pleased that his side maintained their two-goal advantage by the end of the first half.
The opening period saw few clear chances, with Pablo Fornals, Antony, and substitute Romain Perraud — who replaced the injured Ricardo Rodriguez — all unable to find the target.
Jagiellonia had their moments too, notably when Kristoffer Hansen found the net, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside. The best opportunity, however, came from a brilliant cross by Jesus Imaz that just evaded both Darko Churlinov and Hansen, sailing harmlessly behind.
The disallowed goal came just before half-time, effectively stalling any momentum Jagiellonia had started to build.

Upon returning from the break, Betis effectively controlled proceedings, soaking up sporadic pressure from the hosts while aiming to secure the tie on the counter.
Giovanni Lo Celso narrowly missed the target with a shot from the edge of the box, before Cedric Bakambu found the roof of the net from close range, putting the tie almost beyond doubt.
Churlinov did manage to score a composed equaliser soon after, but pulling back three goals always appeared an insurmountable task for the hosts.
Betis remain unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions and are now set to face Fiorentina, in a clash between two of the tournament’s pre-tournament favourites.
As for Jagiellonia, they can hold their heads high after an impressive run in their first season competing in the main stage of a UEFA tournament. They have plenty to strive for this season, as they remain in contention for a second consecutive Polish Ekstraklasa title.
