Feyenoord’s head coach Robin van Persie has expressed his satisfaction in fostering the team’s development and culture at the club.
The former Premier League star took the reins at Feyenoord on February 23rd following the dismissal of Danish manager Brian Priske due to a series of disappointing performances.
At 41 years old, Van Persie transitioned to Feyenoord from Heerenveen, initially facing a tough start with three consecutive losses. However, he has since turned the tide, boasting a two-match winning streak with impressive victories against FC Twente (6-2), currently sixth, and Go Ahead Eagles (3-2), who sit in seventh.
In his new role, Van Persie has requested some patience as he becomes Feyenoord’s third manager this season, following Priske and caretaker Pascal Bosschaart.
“It’s crucial to take this into consideration. Understanding is key, and it should go both ways. Time is equally important,” Van Persie remarked in an interview with the club’s channel, Feyenoord One. “Adjusting to one another takes time, and I am not in any rush.”

“Each day, we make incremental progress in various aspects. We work through meetings, training sessions, and matches, and that’s how we’re gradually building the team. I truly appreciate my players.
“I admire their dedication and abilities. We’re continuously improving little by little.”
FC Groningen
Currently positioned fourth, Feyenoord trails third-placed FC Utrecht by two points but holds a game in hand. A victory against FC Groningen on Wednesday evening could see Feyenoord leapfrog Utrecht and apply pressure on second-placed PSV, who would then find themselves five points ahead.
Van Persie remains cautious about their upcoming opponents. “They’ve lost only once in their last six matches and have steadily climbed the league standings as a result. They are defensively solid and possess a strong counter-attacking threat.”
His clear goal for the club, where he netted 46 goals during his playing career, is to secure a spot in the Champions League. “Our aim is to qualify for the Champions League. Realistically, we must achieve this through finishing third. This competition is crucial for our club.”
Feyenoord will face FC Groningen on Wednesday at 20:00 CET.
