Approximately $500,000 worth of jewellery was reportedly taken from the residence of French striker Olivier Giroud (38), who plays for MLS side Los Angeles FC, during a burglary that occurred earlier this month, according to a report by TMZ on Tuesday.
The celebrity news outlet cited sources within law enforcement, indicating that Giroud’s wife alerted authorities about the break-in on February 5, after she noticed a shattered window at their home.
Among the stolen items were over 10 men’s watches, with the total value of the missing goods estimated at around $500,000, as reported by TMZ.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to TMZ that the investigation is ongoing but stated that no arrests have yet been made.
Giroud, who has previously played for Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan, was a key member of the French squad that clinched the 2018 World Cup. He joined LAFC last year and has since contributed to the team’s success, helping them secure the US Open Cup title.
Other notable athletes in the US sports scene, including Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome, and Atlanta Falcons cornerback Antonio Hamilton, have also been victims of burglaries recently, with some incidents reportedly coinciding with the times they were competing in nationally televised games.
